Today, May 12, was the first day we did not receive bad news from the doctor since we arrived May 3. This is a great day!!!
It's been 24 hours and Ari has not had any crashes or new complications, and so we have a plan to get more support reduced today and see how he does. He is still on the vent with a PEEP of 9, but he's keeping his oxygen levels good after being flipped to his back again. They've removed some of his monitors and reduced the frequency with with they are continuing to monitor other things. He's off nitric oxide. They've removed his arterial line and if he keeps up the steady trend, they will remove his urinary catheter by the end of the day.
These are all great things!
A couple of corrections from yesterday's post - Ari tested positive for entero- OR rhinovirus. The test they run does not distinguish between the two. From my virology days I recognized both as distinct viruses but didn't realize they lumped them together in this assay. Also, these viruses persist in secretions for up to several weeks so there's no way to say when he got this viral infection.
Okay...given the good news, let's celebrate with a happy picture? This is from Ari's 7 official baby pictures at 7 months-old. Isn't he handsome?!
Love to all,
Dorothy
