Our awesome X-Man, Ari G. is sick.
After a successful surgery Friday putting in new ear tubes and taking out adenoids, he got into respiratory stress by late Saturday night. Sunday morning a trip to the ER confirmed pneumonia. He got worse throughout the day and we landed in pediatric intensive care (PICU). After a stable day and a better night, he got sicker again.
This is Ari G.
Ari G. today is in critical care and almost unrecognizable under a sea of tubes and devices. After a violently restless day yesterday he became unresponsive last night and was put on a ventilator. His organs have suffered from poor oxygenation and the doctors hope that with the help of the ventilator and many new meds that can be turned around.
We have had some good news today. He was showing signs of kidney injury yesterday and his urine output was dangerously low. Today, it is on its way back up. He is on blood pressure meds and also by late this morning, they were getting his blood pressure stabilized. Nurse Morgan just told me that while he still has pulmonary hypertension, they've been able to reduce his nitric oxide and oxygen a bit. Cardiologist Dr. Frazier just reported his heart looks good and the only negatives she sees are those related to the excess amount of fluids he required to get stable.
I hope this is the beginning of more good reports to come. Ari is a precious and sweet boy, and life without his bright soul would be much more dark. Right now we are just having family visit with Ari, but as we start to see how Ari works through this, we may be asking some of you to come sit with him for brief periods of time to give us a break.
Good thoughts, energy and prayers are very much appreciated. We have a long road ahead. Please check back on this website often. I'm new to blogging so forgive any technical issues, but I will try to keep this site updated and use it as a primary source of communicating Ari's progress.
