The last 24 hrs have been quite eventful. If you didn't see notice elsewhere, Ari was released from the hospital late yesterday afternoon!!!
Ari is restricted to a pureed diet and honey thickened liquids, and will spend the weekend continuing to ween off meds. We've still got some days ahead of us at home before Ari can go back to school, but he's home!!! My sweet boy is home! And he's excited! And we're excited!
I'll keep posting for awhile, Ari will keep improving, but to be sure I don't miss the opportunity of you all reading this blog, I want to pause for a minute on the update and say thank you:
1. Thank you all for all the prayers. Many, many prayers were sent up, and they were answered! Our lives are richer and forever blessed because of you.
2. Thank you for all of your comments on the blog, on Facebook, sent through email; all the texts and phone calls. I kept up with everything but didn't have time to respond to much. Please know that your words lifted me up every day.
3. Thank you for the food.
4. Thank you for the play dates for Rowan.
5. Thank you to Rowan's teachers and school for taking extra special care of her this past month.
6. Thank you for the balloons, stuffed animals, cards, gift cards and gummy bears.
7. Thank you to ACH for taking great care of Ari - we had some amazing nurses, doctors, techs, housekeepers, etc.
8. Thank you to our church for the prayer shawl, healing service and laundry help.
9. Thank you for running errands for us and helping us with work at home.
10. Thank you for offering help. Almost every day at least one person asked if we needed anything.
11. Thank you to Ari's school for loving him so dearly.
12. Thank you to my work and my husband's work, our coworkers and supervisors for all of their support and compassion.
13. Thank you to our local Down syndrome community for all that you do and all that you are.
14. Thank you for cheering Ari on every day and believing that he would come home.
And now for some pictures:
Ari joyfully getting reacquainted with some favorite toys last night.
Playing with paper between bites at the dinner table.
Going for a walk today.
Raising his hand to show he's happy.
Asleep with dad on the couch tonight.
It's the little things I missed most when I didn't know how this would turn out. To get to spend the last 24 hours at home snuggling and playing with Ari, giving him a bath, smelling him. being able to lean over and kiss his head without any wires or tubes in the way and then being able to watch him peacefully sleep knowing he is strong and can breathe...these are the greatest joys in life. I hope I am always humbled by how precious and fleeting these can be and remember to enjoy every moment I have with my family.
Thank you all for your love and being on this journey with us.
Love to all,
Dorothy
