Well again

And.......we're good!

Ari has been sick for the last couple of weeks. The sickest he has been this season yet, but fortunately, he managed to stay out of the hospital, yay!!! I really could do without the rollercoaster of illnesses this time of year, but such is life.

Two weeks ago it started with croup, but that quickly turned into a standard, but constant cough. Three days later we were at the pediatrician with a negative chest xray and a diagnosis of just another respiratory virus. Two days after that we came out of the ER with a positive chest xray and a diagnosis of early pneumonia. His fever had gone up to 102-103 for a couple days, and the choking coughing episodes had gotten worse. They sent us home with superstrong clindamycin because they couldn't tell if it was aspiration pneumonia, and given his history last May they didn't want to treat it too conservatively.

I have to give credit where it's due. His fever broke a few days later, and as they said, about 5 days into it, we would start seeing some improvement. We did and Ari was finally able to go back to school on Thursday, which was 7 days after the diagnosis...but it was a scary climb back up, and clindamycin is some awful stuff. That turned out to be an adventure all on its own. Big thank you to Sean for being much better at getting meds down Ari than me and for being the one to give him the middle of the night dose while I slept.

So...here we are. Ari is mostly well again. Full appetite, no fever, tummy working again, cough is still wet and full and you can tell it's in the phase of getting the yucky stuff on out. Ari didn't care much for the snow day. His skin doesn't tolerate the cold very well anyway and I was pretty sure his lungs didn't need that, so he stayed inside while his sister, friends and cousin made the most of the weather. Gotta love snow days. Even if you don't go outside, you get lots of warm fuzzy snuggles inside.

Love to all,
Dorothy
